Well, two “open-mouth, insert-foot” items for you today.
Item One: Senator Hillary Rodham-Rodham, the presumptive Democrat frontrunner. Speaking in a historic black neighborhood in Florida, she lambasted President Bush’s No Child Left Behind Act, as doing too little to help minorities. She then acknowledged that she’s still searching for ways to raise minority students’ test scores.
Now, when she was Arkansas First Lady, Mrs. Clinton overhauled that state’s education program — and the state promptly sank to near-dead-last in the nation. Her husband had eight years — had eight years — in the White House; his only educational achievement was an oral lesson with the intern. Under President Bush, test scores are actually up for minorities. Yet she complains? With no plan in mind? This is supposed to be the smartest woman in America?
Item Number Two: The newly elected Democrat Governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland, recently said that he didn’t want to accommodate any Iraqi refugees in his state because that would “bail out” President Bush. He’s offered a clarification: “I am sympathetic to the plight of the innocent Iraqi people who have fled that country…However, I would not want to ask Ohioans to accept a greater burden than they already have borne for the Bush Administration’s failed policies.”
So Governor Strickland’s “clarification” is just as bigoted and devoid of compassion, mean-spirited, and politically jaundiced as his original remarks. But why should we expect anything more than prepubescent thinking, or open hostility of Bush and the Iraqi people? I mean, Democrats have nothing to offer this country but hate, anyway.
