Now I haven’t been following this case very closely because it really isn’t business of mine, or within my frame of interest, what six kids did to another kid. If I wanted real life terrible events, then I’d know all about it.

It turns out there is a whole bunch general beliefs flowing around out there and I have no idea who believes what but apparently a lot of people are giving six violent bastard delinquent brats a lot of slack because of some sort of offensive anti-black racial hoo-ha and Jesse Jackson is orbiting around like a missile satellite.

“Jesse Jackson.” There’s a sign something is not kosher.

It turns out the ‘generally known’ stuff is a bunch of horsehockey… “media myths“. Over three pages in this essay Craig Franklin lays out twelve myths generally accepted and propagated as fact.

A Chronological Order of Events is available from the Jena Times.

Just remember that truths, facts actually matter!

Craig Franklin is assistant editor of The Jena Times.

More about Craig Franklin and his relevance to the case

I should know. I live in Jena. My wife has taught at Jena High School for many years. And most important, I am probably the only reporter who has covered these events from the very beginning.

I think when people see racists and scumbags where none/few exist(s) it contributes to a general condition of taking racists and racism, bigotry for granted.

Of course, for all I know, Craig Franklin is selling the CSM and me a load of bull, and an upstanding citizen of Jena has more to get out of a good image for the town than any outsider; but between Mr. Franklin and Rev Al Sharpton, I’ll take the POV of the local citizen.
